So last week Quin and I decided to go to the mall. We run our errands, yadda, yadda, yadda and return to the car to drive home. I load Quin up in his carseat and open my door. There sitting beneath my pedals is an eight-inch-long lizard! So I flip out. How was I supposed to drive home wearing flip-flops with this huge lizard by my feet? I call Bryce. No Answer. Then I call my mom. She manages to calm me down and convinces me I need to find some sort of long stick to poke at the lizard with and scare it out of the car. Because there weren't any long sticks lying around in the parking lot, I decided to use my trusty umbrella. After poking at the lizard, its tail got caught in the crack between my console and pedal area and I watched it flail around for a minute. I poked the thing out of the crack and then it ran up my pedals into the wire parts above. I couldn't see the lizard anymore, but I knew it was there. At this very moment Quin started crying. Now what was I supposed to do? I did the only thing a brave, selfless mother could. I sat down in my seat, and drove home with my flip-flop clad foot mere inches away from the scariest lizard on the planet. Would I get bitten? Maybe. Would it run up my leg and into my mouth like on The Parent Trap? Quite possibly.
Now, during this whole mishap I was on the phone with my mom and by the time I was 15 minutes into my drive she had all of her coworkers sitting on the edges of their seats waiting to see if I would get into an accident on the freeway because the lizard attacked me. As you all have probably realized I did make it home safely. But what happened to the lizard you might ask? It remains a mystery. In fact it might be sitting on my gear shift at this very moment. All I know is that wherever I go it is quite possible I have an extra passenger riding with me.
I would like to offer a special thanks to my mother and her coworkers. Mom: thanks for staying on the phone with me even though I was screaming really loud. Paloma: thanks for the advise of tapping my foot while I drive to scare the monster away. Yolanda: thanks for telling me to turn the cold air on so it was blowing on my feet because lizards don't like cold air.
